Greenwood Chair Making offers a very enjoyable entry into hand splitting logs, steam bending techniques, and angled joinery mastery. In this class I will teach students how to design for comfort and build the support tooling to make fine chairs with precision. Chairmaking is often thought of as one of the more challenging arenas of furniture making. While I cannot deny the demands of the craft, this class can do a lot to teach you how to approach chair making using a process broken down into very manageable steps. From splitting out the wood from green logs, to steam bending, hand shaping, seat weaving and finishing, there is a whole lot of fun to be had in this class.
One thing I like to emphasize in all my classes is that it is what you learn in class rather than the product you go home with that has the greatest value.
Each student will go home with an assembled two-slat side chair, and very likely a few new friends. So come join us!
I will send a complete tool list when you enroll or if you need to see that to decide just let me know.
