For years I have been thinking about making a chair for cello players and other musicians, but the timing just hadn’t been right. In the summer of 2009, I was approached by Steve Dembroski and Paul Heumiller from Dream Guitars in Weaverville, NC. They were on the quest for a chair to offer their guitar playing clients and asked if I would be interested in designing one for them. A chair suited for guitar players seemed to me a perfect place to begin my foray into the world of musical chairs.
Most of us think of playing music as a wonderful expression of soul. It is that, but for accomplished musicians it is also physically demanding. Musicians suffer from a myriad of physical difficulties as they position their bodies around their instruments. This chair is designed specifically to support the musicians comfortably for hours of practice or during a performance. The Sonus chair promotes better posture, circulation and expression of movement.
We introduced this chair in August 2009 and have had a passionate response from musicians of all types. Drummers, guitarist, banjo, mandolin, dulcimer players and others are all loving the ergonomic benefits this design offers. The size, angle and height of the back, the pitch of the seat and the round shapes all support the movements that musicians need.
Currently available in Walnut and Ambrosia maple. Other woods will be available soon. Customized to fit each client.
PRICE: $1800 - $2400
"The guitar chair is superb. I got a chance to use it for a jam session last night. It is extraordinarily comfortable to play guitar in. I also found the chair puts me in a posture of engagement, helping me focus on the music. I'm appreciating all the fine and beautiful construction details. It's a brilliant design. I enjoyed sitting in it while my friends and I were just hanging out too." - Luke
